Although not entirely representative of their general output, ‘Templeton’ is nonetheless a brilliant debut release from Glasgow’s Desolation Yes! The fusion of light ‘industrial’ music, eighties electro and celtic harmonies / vocals give it a highly infectious sound which will bury itself deep in your subconscious. Its anthemic style is reminiscent, not in sound but structure, of some of the classic sounds from Manchester in the late eighties / early nineties, and is one of those tracks which would effortlessly lend itself to a seven or eight minute 12” vinyl version.
‘Instinct’ on the other hand is much more conventional. Think Spandau Ballet (To Cut A Long Story Short) overlaid with Depeche Mode vocals and New Order (Blue Monday) drum samples. To be honest, the ‘drums’ tend to get on your tits after a while, but try not to let this detract from an overall excellent single. Definitely one to search out & download.
