As with their previous single, ‘Templeton (Shine Like A Star)’ Desolation Yes! lift their latest release from the forthcoming album ‘CyberNation.’
Somewhat ironically, ‘Futurepop,’ has a distinct retro feel to it, and although the sound is still unmistakably Desolation Yes! it lacks the immediate impact and celtic-industrial, uniqueness of the earlier release, ‘Templeton (Shine A Light)’.
However, it is a definite grower. Whilst I would imagine its acceptance to be more emphatic when played out live and the crowd undoubtedly comply with the command of, “ I wanna see you move on down on the dance floor,” there is deep down in the track, a kind of Gary Numan, ‘Cars,’ undercurrent that pulls the song along. Combine that with the synth’s handclap beat of The Human League and the distinct preference for a repetitive, but hooky chorus over more verses and you have a song that will get right inside your head – with or without your sanction!
Future Pop will be released as a free download in association with Red Torpedo, the Glasgow-based clothing brand, who will host the track on their website www.redtorpedo.com. The download will be available from Monday 29th September.
