There are some bands that are content with playing solid indie rock without so much as even nudging the envelope, and Crash My Model Car are a fantastic example. Hailing from Glasgow, the four-piece have just released this, their debut album, 12 tracks of decently executed guitar pop. The only problem is the obvious lack of originality – it would be easy to simply say they sound like Snow Patrol but it would also be completely accurate. The production and musicianship is extremely slick however, and the songs are all well written although they do tend to be mildly indistinguishable from one another. There are a couple of exceptions however, ‘She’ll Go All The Way With You’ is reminiscent of the Stereophonics when they were good, and ‘Omu Prin & Me’ stands out as the best song on the record. The slick production does wonders for their sound and it’s a solid effort – but unfortunately in songwriting terms doesn’t strike too many points on the innovation scale.
