You think you know all what Chris T-T is about; folky, acoustic numbers with funny, political lyrics? Well you’ll be surprised when you hear Capital, the final chapter in Chris’s London trilogy. The experimental, guitar led mantra (We Are) The King Of England is just a sign of what is to come in this diverse collection of songs. From the jazzy instrumental of Balletschool Pianist and the heavy rock monster that is Where Are You? one thing is clear; this is no typical folk-rock album.
Of course, having your friends add their talents to your record never does any harm (including Jim Bob from Carter USM whose lyrical style and voice isn’t too dissimilar to that of Chris) and it contributes to the mixed sound of the album. Just listen to None Of Them Gave A Fuck About The Future, which begins as bluesy funk groover almost like Primal Scream’s Rocks before the fiddle transforms the song into a Celtic folk jig. Recent singles A-Z and This Gun Is Not A Gun is the side of Chris T-T we are probably more familiar, yet even the latter enters new territory with its killer guitar lick.
Despite the fact that Chris T-T tackles a variety of different styles, the material is consistently strong. Yet one thing that does remain is Chris’ strong political views which are always tinged with a dash of humour, giving a positive outlook to the songs. This is the sound of a singer-songwriter creating something unique and it’s the record that will hopefully bring him the recognition he deserves.
