Single review

Taken from their upcoming debut album, ‘Life is Boring’ is a potential top 40 single. Combining strong guitar, heavy drum beats and 80s style keyboards this is a good slice of radio friendly rock/pop.

It’s hard to place the influences but that can only be a good thing in a music market where so many bands sound the same. The song has a great sing-a-long chorus, which wouldn’t be out of place in the American punk pop market of bands like Sum 41 and Blink182. Don’t let that put you off though because the comparison to that style ends there and the song is brought into its own with the guitar/keyboard combo.

The B-sides are both remixes of the title track, one an ambient dance style from Ali Love that sounds a bit like Daft Punk and the other by Crookers has a quirky synth sound with a harder dance beat. Neither has any real resemblance to the original and don’t really add to it. It may have been better to hear some more of the bands own sound.

Let’s hope this single sets the benchmark for the album, which is due in May because I’d certainly like to hear more of this band.
