This is a grand turn of events for early 2021 – the return of Mr Coughlan, who in previous decades blazed a singular trail with two seminal combos in Microdisney and Fatima Mansions, his rich Cork-originated baritone and scalding lyrics always worth a listen…
His new project takes in several collaborators in a forthcoming album, and this is the first fruit of recent labours.
The track is a withering stream of consciousness rant, with references to social media, “video calls” and other modern scourges, set to a burbling, chugging backing track of guitar, drums and keyboards. Despite the vitriol, he has always known his way around a structured song with catchy hooks, and this is no exception.
Such a welcome return and BM for one can’t wait for the full album.
