Action Group

Greed

Anyone who’s been following Action Group over the last few months will already know that their star is on the rise. Having developed and fine-tuned their live sound, they then proceeded to play a blistering set at this year’s Spectrum Festival more… “Action Group”

Bee Stings

Life By Misadventure

London four-piece Bee Stings court their own weirdness as if they’re afraid of vanishing into the mire of banal indie-pop. There’s certainly no danger of that more… “Bee Stings”

Free See Dee!

Beautifully packaged comp from the ever reliable Topplers imprint. This is what label compilations should be about, introducing listeners to new acts whilst showing off what good taste the label owners have. Running from the mentally deranged ‘Jack in the Green’ by Jowe Head, via the raunch-tronica of Gang, lo-fi Joy Division flavours of The Decider, the Joan Jett-isms of The Platforms, to the handclaps and twang guitar tribute to Nikki Sudden and Epic Soundtracks of ‘Two Brothers’. It’s all good and had extensive sleeve notes on all the acts. Go and get it, you’ll thank me.

Antony Harding

Lonely Boy… and other tragedies

In 2003, a young Norwegian poet, Elvind Kirkeby sent Antony Harding (ex-Hefner) some poems that he thought would make good songs. Antony agreed and set about writing and recording what we have here, ‘Lonely Boy and other tragedies’. more… “Antony Harding”

Dave Arcari

Come With Me...

Have you ever seen the film, ‘Unleashed’ with Bob Hoskins and Jet Li?
It is terrible don’t ever try to. It’s about a man (Li) being treated like a dog and raised as a fighting machine, locked up in a cage with an electronic collar leashed around his neck. more… “Dave Arcari”

Sister Vanilla

Little Pop Rock

Right, it’s good to know that whenever the Reid family get a bit high or feel a little low they’ll commit it to tape in some form or another. This time it is in the guise of their younger sibling, Linda aka Sister Vanilla. more… “Sister Vanilla”

Field Music

Tones of Town

Right, I’ve got my calculator at the ready and a strong mug of black coffee ready to tackle the new Field Music album, the finest pastoral English Art-school pop band of our generation. more… “Field Music”

The Voices

The Sound Of Young America

If ever an album title was set out to mislead the listener, this one would take on and defeat all-comers. A more apt (but less catchy) title would be The Sound Of Young Britain circa 1989-1991. more… “The Voices”

Pomegranate

The Thrill of Fresh Paint

I like press releases – apart from anything else they make my job easier – so “known for experimental, cinematic electronica” sums up Pomegranate rather neatly. more… “Pomegranate”
