Aphex Twin / The Bug / Wolf Eyes

Barrowland

It’s an inspired decision to put US noise champions Wolf Eyes alongside the Aphex Twin on this Triptych billing, as it exposes some surprising links between two very different acts. Their scuzzy spew is from the dark, violent corners of music, where electronics, guitars and DIY shit burst from a flesh of wires more… “Aphex Twin / The Bug / Wolf Eyes”

Silver Jews

Bongo Club

Looking around the crowd tonight everyone has a glow on their faces; it’s the glow of anticipation. For tonight is the first time the Silver Jews have ever played in Scotland. In fact tonight is only the 16th show the band has ever played in their 15-year career, allegedly more… “Silver Jews”

Quasi

Mono

Quasi consist of one distorted keyboard extraordinaire named Sam Coomes, and one beautiful, racket pounding drummer called Janet Weiss. Joanna Bolme (also of Malkmus and the Jicks) joins the duo on bass duties tonight. With a new album to plug and a substantial back catalogue to choose from expectations are exceedingly high for the show tonight more… “Quasi”

Laki Mera / Keser

Bannermans

A busy night in the capital with Triptych taking over at least four of the main medium sized venues making it hard for anyone else to pull a non corporate generated crowd. Fringe of Triptych would be not too far off in describing this bill from two sides of the new music/experimental continuum more… “Laki Mera / Keser”

CSS

Liquid Room

It`s hard to think of a Brazilian band that has enjoyed greater international success than Cansei de Ser Sexy, affectionately known as CSS to their legion of fans. Having formed in 2003 they then signed to ex-Nirvana label Sub Pop in 2006, and since then they`ve been touring Europe and the US, taking part in the NME`s Indie Rave tour and opening for the likes of Primal Scream and Ladytron. As if that`s not enough, their first single with Sub Pop, `Let`s Make Love And Listen To Death From Above`, has become an unlikely indie disco hit, and rarely seems to be off the airways. more… “CSS”

Einsturzende Neubauten / Damo Suzuki

Tramway Triptych

Nebauten`s most famous moment in their 27 years together was when they chucked a load of bottles in a cement mixer and showered the audience in glass. So, apt that Damo Suzuki is support for this Triptych gig – since what he does, essentially, is chuck a load of sounds into a big virtual mixer – and delivers a long ramble over the top. Even the band he`s assembled – half of who had never met until the soundcheck – is a curious blend more… “Einsturzende Neubauten / Damo Suzuki”

Cannonball Jane

The Swamp @ Caledonian Backpackers

The large crowd that had assembled for local outfit My Tiny Robots had dissipated somewhat when Sharon Hagiopen – aka Cannonball Jane took the stage. I felt a bit bad about this. Of course, it was no fault of mine, but witnessing the effort that was produced on the stage I felt at least Edinburgh could have made an effort back and turn up. Hagiopen and her on stage partner give a performance on the night more… “Cannonball Jane”

Camera Obscura

ABC

To the sound of `Donald where`s yer troosers?` blaring over the PA system Camera Obscura, fronted by the demure Tracyanne Campbell complete with her pale doll-like pussy bow dress & bizarrely motionless bowl-cut hairdo, take the stage of Glasgow`s ABC for the last date of their UK tour more… “Camera Obscura”

Sergeant

Yuppies Live

Unless you`ve been hiding in a coalbunker for the last year, you`ll be well aware of Dundee`s newfound status as the rock&roll capital of Scotland. Bold claims some might say, but can you remember the last time our capital spat forth this many ace bands in such a short amount of time? more… “Sergeant”
