gig reviews

Malcolm Middleton / The Pictish Trail

Glasgow School of Art (Friday 27th May)

Friday evening gigs at the School of Art are always prompt affairs so by the time BM arrived (at 7.55pm) Pictish Trail was starting the last song of his support set.

Kathryn Joseph / Robin Adams and Ally Roberts

Benefit Gig for @supportshafiq, Glasgow Glad Cafe (Sunday 22nd May)

This benefit at BM’s local arts cafe (and a very good one indeed) involved a number of folk singers

Stag and Dagger

Various Glasgow venues (1st May 2016)

The S&G appears to have survived north of the border while the brand name has evaporated elsewhere –

Minor Victories / Zyna Hel

Glasgow School of Art (Friday 6th May)

This night started very low key.

Dan Sartain / The Jackhammers / The Reverse Cowgirls

Glasgow Broadcast (Tuesday 26th April)

Sometimes the choice of support says as much about a band as the main attraction himself.

Herschel 36 / Megahammer / Mathew Bourne / James Graham-Katherine Joseph

Outskirts Festival @ Platform (Saturday 23rd April)

An excellent if slightly eccentric, festival at Platform in Easterhouse

Hector Bizerk / Babe

Glasgow School of Art (Friday 22nd April)

This gig was the launch night for Bizerk’s new album, out now, collecting mainly a series of EPs into something a bit more coherent.

Glasgow O2 ABC (Wednesday 20th April)

It is good sometimes to challenge one’s musical comfort zones

Field Music

Sunday March 14 (Glasgow Art School)

A great evening. £10 plus booking fee for a pretty good support as well

Chvrches / The Twilight Sad / Shura

Glasgow SSE Hydro, (Saturday 2 April)

This was a triumph in several ways.
