Camden’s Captain Black latest single kicks off on a Kooks skiffle pop routine. Vocalist Keith Austin retains that Kooks feel throughout Sister and to be fair this track and back up track Jack Sheppard race along with enough musical variety to keep the interest going. A mix of acoustic and electric guitars complement the simple melodies in these songs and its thoughtful arrangements that really push Captain Black in a place where many bands have no idea how to reach. With decent support slots for established bands like The Babyshambles they seem to be mixing in the right London circles. Captain Black is lodged into a very current sound but still manage to provide an air of originality definitely worth rechecking again in six months or so. Solid stuff.
