This East Coast accordion maverick has recently signed to Moshi Moshi Records and his first release is mainly re-recordings of tracks from his previous EPs and debut album, all done in one-take glory at Glasgow’s Green Door studios…
The ten tracks are mainly familiar to Easter aficionados but these new versions are even better…
There are some other bleeps and electronic parps apart from the accordion, for example ‘Want it Sometimes’…
‘Fall Down’ at first sounds something like Malian or gamelan music (not that BM is that versed in either) but it sure has a strange vibe…while ‘One Thought’ has piano accompaniment…
‘Pop Goes The Weasel’ is perhaps one of the best tracks here, with some nods to gospel and heavier blues…and a great drum machine vibe… and ‘Tell Em’ Boy’, maybe his best yet, another great take on this at Green Door.
Last track ‘Feeling’s Gone’ again demonstrates CE’s huge talent… enough said…
These tracks are a very sideways and at times hilarious take on existential blues – hard to know when he is being deadly serious, or just deadpan, either way it is highly original and very enjoyable….
This is an affecting and superb piece of work, and more power to CE’s elbow…
