The five-piece electronic-trad band from Inverness made their highly anticipated Celtic Connections debut to an enthusiastic and buzzing crowd at Òran Mór’s intimate, atmospheric nightclub.
With Fras setting the tone with their dynamic blend of traditional melodies and contemporary rhythms, the audience was eager for what was to come.
It was clear the crowd was filled with friends and supporters, as band members made their way through saying hello to people and thanking them for coming and showing support at their first headline gig for the festival.
The band’s excited energy matched their electrifying sound, appealing to longtime fans and newcomers alike.
Each instrument blends together seamlessly. With Finlay MacLennan playing the fiddle, Alasdair MacQuarrie to his left on the acoustic guitar, Angus Walker on the drums, Ivan Steele who plays a mix of the whistle, flute, and pipes, and Calum MacQuarrie on the bass.
MacLennan and MacQuarrie worked the crowd with ease, chatting between tracks, making sure the energy never dipped.
Fans of the band Valtos would enjoy Cala’s music. With a similar electronic and traditional sound, Cala put their own twist on it, which could be heard in their latest releases ‘Pillars’ and ‘Two-stroke Wheelbarrow’.
Their setlist showcased their evolution and highlighted the kind of standout performance they can achieve. As the final notes rang out, the crowd erupted in cheers, leaving the venue buzzing with great energy, a testament to their growing impact.
