There goes track number one, seamlessly providing an introduction and blending into the next as the grandiose, orchestral elements of metal are replaced by the traditional band setup. Bury The Hatchet consider their base to be metalcore, but aren’t scared to venture out once in a while. I’m typically not a metal guy (I prefer punk) but whilst I may not get the pig squeals, or growls or whatever, I can appreciate the work that’s gone into everything else.
Of course, I think that screams on every track, as opposed to interspersed with singing, isn’t the way to go – and for that reason, despite the amount of hiking that Bury The Hatchet might do to try to venture outside of their genre, I’m not so sure that it’s as accessible as it could be. One for genre fans I think, although the screams work brilliantly in the assault on the senses that is the final track ‘Broken Soul’.
