With second single ‘Cut Me Some Slack’, new urban artist Bobii Lewis shows us a new side to his personality and talent. While debut ‘Grenade’ was fully rapped, ‘Cut Me Some Slack features a hook/chorus sung entirely by the young London resident. This is definitely a track that grows on you, with a relatively weak opening that fails to convince.
Give it a chance though and the infectious hook and looped electronic backing beats will get under your skin. There’s an endearing element to the lyrics as well, rapping and singing about his struggle to make a mark in the music industry, including relying on support from parents and living hand to mouth in order to feed his passion. There’s a cute little thank you in there to his management team too, demonstrating a humility and grounded nature which is sometimes lacking from the urban genre.
A promising progression then from this young city dweller – it will be interesting to see where he goes from here.
