A change of venue and a change of time to an early slot probably didn’t help support band CIEL, as much of the audience was arriving as they kicked off their set.
However, they quickly settled and by the time they ended on their single ‘Fine Everything’ they had the audience fully on board and suitably warmed up.
Blood Red Shoes came to the stage with two extra members to help out with some of the newer, synthier material – the extra members came and went throughout the set, ensuring classics like ‘It’s Getting Boring By The Sea’ kept their raw sound.
Fans were treated to the first-ever live performance of ‘On The Hook’ from the ‘Ø’ EP and it is certain to be a live staple from now on, being one of the highlights of the night.
Due to the issues with the venue change there was no encore – I think everyone would have preferred the gig hadn’t needed to be moved; however, the veterans Blood Red Shoes showed why they are coming up on 20 years of performing live and are still one of the best and most up-to-date live acts around.
