BM saw this lot live about 6 months ago and they are more than fulfilling their promise with this 5 track EP.
Drenched in feedback and effects, the music pushes forward while acknowledging their shoegaze and Goth influences.
Lead track ‘She Devine’ is very strong, recalling Curve at their best, while ‘Those With A Rope…’ plunges us further into the miasma of feedback that this London-based duo conjure up.
‘Hearts That Beat Will Never Mend’ is another pummelling slice of Cure-esque noise rock, some of the lines harking further back into mid-60s Stones or even The Doors.
The second single from the EP, ‘Mae’s Desire’, clocks in at over 6 minutes and rages and roars, reminding BM a bit of The Telescopes or even Glasgow’s The Cosmic Dead, both high praise indeed.
The EP ends with a frankly exhausting 9 minute Broken Light remix of ‘Those With A Rope…’ which blends spoken word into the track, and then ramps up the instrumentation to put a sitar to the fore, like some kind of demented ‘Tomorrow Never Knows’ for the year of Brexit – far out, man.
BM would love to catch this combo live again but although there are shows in England, don’t see anything in Scotland planned at the moment. Well worth checking out though…
