Here, we have a track-by-track live reinterpretation of Bjork’s Vulnicura album. What fans of the original album will make of this, I don’t know, as personally, I haven’t heard it. But this disc has made me want to check it out.
As the original album has already a companion disc (Vulnicura Strings), the question has to be asked, why does this album exist? What can it offer that these songs have not had already? The answer is here, the songs are allowed to breathe.
The producers and arrangers here have given plenty of space to Bjork’s breathy, high pitched and sweet vocals. Each song is allowed to run its natural course and she swoops and soars with them.
She’s not melodramatic, or overly camp. She never dominates a track. What she does do is drift along, atop each arrangement, adding her own flavour and personality to each.
