Shy Child
Disconnected
Wall of Sound
This latest offering from Shy Child, a collection of remixes of ‘Disconnected’ – the newest single from their album Liquid Love – has definitely got something for everyone. The original radio edit has a very poppy feel with heavy synthetic beats and a fairly minimalist intro which builds up into a cheerful track with its fast-paced rhythm and catchy lyrics. The child-like xylophone also contributes to the overall playful feel and is a definite hit. The remixes include an Anoraak remix with a 90’s vibe, complete with glockenspiel layered over keyboard and echoing vocals. The Ocelot remix is a lot more down-tempo and relaxed with the floating lyrics introduced over a catchy background mix. My favourite of all is the Moscow remix with a very minimalist introduction, slowly building up layers of percussion intermingled with synthetic beats and emphasis on the lyrics. It reaches a climax in the middle of the track and the whole song is almost comparable to late Kraftwerk.
Finishing off this mixed bag is the Shuttle remix, with its heavy lyrical emphasis, and trance-sounding orchestral beats which creates another interesting take on the original radio edit.
