Tonight was part of Independent Venue week at the excellent Hug and Pint.
Thala was the first act of the evening to play on her first visit to Glasgow. Her soft voice and dreamy guitars sound helped raise the energy levels at a reasonable pace which was perfect for what started as a quiet Sunday evening.
Not new to Glasgow were Hater who played The Hug and Pint less than a year previously. The four-piece brought the noise levels up with a well paced set that bounced seamlessly between soft indie pop and high energy rock.
Last on the roster was Amber Arcades playing mostly from her new album (‘Barefoot on Diamond Road’) due out at the end of the week. Another musician that drifted between pop and rock in a set that complemented all three bands together very well.
Having missed touring for the last four years Annelote of Amber Arcades talked about how special it was to be playing in front of an audience again and the importance of independent venues like the Hug and Pint in making that possible. This night with most of the audience likely having seen three new bands for first time perform really good sets was a perfect testament to that.
