Having attended the prestigious Brit School (which has produced the likes of Adele, Jessie J and Katy B in recent years) hopes are high for pop singer-songwriter Allan Rose. With some of the finest music career tuition available, he hopes to become the latest in the stable to break through.
And based on this latest single, he has every chance of doing that. Bright, classy pop from the off, this is well produced and immediately draws you in with pared back but rhythmic verse. Rose’s deep, internal sounding vocal makes for interesting listening, and the way the percussive opening gives way to the fuller chorus – complete with high levels of catchy – is great.
I think it’s safe to say that Allan Rose doesn’t come across as a natural pop star in the cookie cutter sense. But the same could be said of Adele, who’s unlikely to be seen straddling a wrecking ball in her smalls in her next video. What Rose does have though, is class, and a bit of that goes a long way.
