All Our Good Friends is the one-man act of West-London singer-songwriter Johnny Daukes, whom since splitting up with his indie band FIN in 1997 and has spent the last several years writing comedy sketches for TV and radio, performed motorcycle stunts in music videos for boy bands and has been the voice of countless adverts. Now he has returned to making music and it’s something we can all be thankful for.
‘Radio’ sounds like Sven G-Englar by Sigur Ros if it was performed by Eels which is quite representative of the dreamy lo-fi Americana that this record is full of. Fans of Sparklehorse will love the gorgeous melodies that play out over melancholic chord sequences while ‘Long Enough to Bring You Back’ shows Daukes isn’t afraid to show off a feedback driven-lick on his electric guitar every now and then. The album was written following a break-up and so it isn’t the happiest record but a beautiful one nonetheless. Let’s hope it doesn’t take another 18 year relationship to end before Daukes make another record.
