We’ve passed the halfway point in January, so what better time to look back to 2018, and with the help of our reviewers, declare to the world the definitive ‘best of’ list of albums released in the past 12 months.

Opinion was massively divided (each writer ranking their favourite five long-players of 2018) which made for a very varied chart much longer than the 30 releases we restricted the list below to, but happily, a consensus of sorts was reached with a sizeable proportion of writers declaring an old favourite of is this music? (and maker of previous #5 and #8 albums) to be the top music-maker of 2018… Adam Stafford, with a towering tour-de-force of a double album – largely instrumental, heavily employing from his trademark loops, it builds up an immersive sonic landscape which stands above an impressive list of ‘runners-up’.
