Let’s be honest, none of us really know why were here. In the grand scheme of things, on a universal scale, your guess is as good as mine. There is a school of thought that suggests were here to get through this thing, whatever it is and it would seem that Betika are subtly promoting this ideology with their music. Upon opening an album laced with artwork that looks like the lovechild of a Belle & Sebastian and Aberfeldy CD inlay, there arent a great deal of surprises. A melting pot of indiepop tunes about the power struggle between head, heart and hormones is apparent throughout the 14 track debut release. With the track Hatred the eight member group wail let the hatred out of your heart all to unconvincingly. The message is worthy but the vocals are lacklustre and the multiple instruments all blend into one. All in all a pleasant experience but not heavy on the replay value.
