SubOpt are all about the funk. Something we all need in our lives. Unfortunately, SubOpt fail to bring anything new to the funk-rock genre, sounding like a very standard Incubus. The production is flawless and there are moments of brilliance, especially in Optimystic, in which Donna Maciocia provides an air of freshness to the music with her smooth voice. The musicianship is fantastic throughout the album, however, there is just not enough here to make you want to rush out and buy it. Its a pity because when you see what they look like, you may expect them to sound a little crazy, especially with the quirky album title. Perhaps SubOpt are best appreciated in the live environment.
