The Horrors are less a band and more a theatrical performance. From the image to the stage show to the songs – everything about them seems practised and performed to horror-punk perfection. However, this is not entirely a bad thing. Its been light-years since a band had the gall to dress up and challenge their audience. And the bands latest single Gloves proves that the music holds up too. The frantic, screaming energy evoked throughout the song ties in well with their whole gothy post-Eighties Matchbox schtick. Faris Badwan howls convincingly along to ragged guitars, a little like The Cramps and a lot like Screaming Lord Sutch. The Horrors are a breath of fresh air in the zombie-like state of the current indie scene, but how long will it be until the one-trick-pony effect kicks in?
