My Device are an excitable Brighton trio, sitting uncomfortably in the space left between Maximo Park and the next faintly-melodic jerky indie band that the NME so loves to give its magazine space to. Their debut Nervous System is chock full of catchy yet forgettable indie disco tunes perfect for a summer of hype and then relegated to the dusty shelves come winter when theres another similar band to fill the void. However, this album seems to have a double personality – from the catchy poppiness of Aloha, to the abrasive, noisy opening track Get On Like A House On Fire, which may appeal to NME-reading indie teenagers all year round, but perhaps not to those of us whod like more than a one-album wonder. They seem to have a bit more bite, a bit more attitude than the rest of the bandwagon-jumpers weve seen sidle into the charts over the past year, but really, thats just not enough.
