Some bands just seem to appear blazing brain-banging pop hooks; impeccably fashioned indie numbers firing from their holsters like Sub Pops back catalogue loaded into an untamed oozy. Enter the Little Ones, then. An L.A outfit whose mini album Sing Song could beam sunshine into even the most rain-drenched of Brit resident. Refreshingly, this is a band who seemed to appeared from the fringes of the lo-fi terrain and end up with tunes so catchy they wind up sounding like a (shmindie) Popstars showcase. Its safe to say Sing Song wont be blazing the top ten alight for the next year (like current tour buddies The Kaisers debut oddly did), but nonetheless each of the seven tracks on this Mini-album showcase a band riding the crest of a sun-swept, celebratory wave. Lovers Who Uncover is Mercury Rev dancing on Hammond organs and embracing Oggy-Oy fist punches whilst High On The Hill sees early Shins ripped on subway grooves. Its not all headfirst College pop though, Let Them Ring The Bells’ stop-start snare punches make way for a soaring xylophonic splendour (imagine erm.. Arcade Fire on Hubba Bubba).
Ok, so at seven tracks it does feel quite slight, but to not investigate this LP further would be like losing out on a full days UV rays, and let’s face it, it beats the fucking Sun Beds.
