Not another bloody acoustic(y) singer songwriter record! I screamed inwardly as I pulled away the press release that obscured the front cover of Sydney based Throsbys second album. Sometimes the realisation that one is jaded and presumptuous is very welcome indeed with this most definitely being one of those times.
Under the house is a beautiful, quirky wee album of lovely, understated, upbeat melodic gems; the lyrics of which will leave the listener wondering whether the artist is innocuous, deceptively cynical or just plain weird in the most refreshing way.
These are songs about nothing and everything; love songs that arent love songs and jangly, folky tales of regret all delivered in a deliberate, experimental manner reminiscent of early Alanis Morissette, (But with more substance and without the god complex) or Tori Amos.
