Having postponed this gig from the summer, 3 Doors down have a packed Carling Academy waiting patiently for the American rockers to take to the stage. The crowd had given a mixed reception to odd rockers Kolo, however as soon as they the sound of a train coming in from the left, the crowd of fifteen to fifty year olds are sent into a frenzy…
In a rare UK gig, 3 Doors Down came to Glasgow on the back of their multi-selling self-titled album and showed us just what the UK had been missing from a band with a mass fan base stateside, but their popularity is only starting to grow on this side of the pond. The opening track set the tone for the night as lead singer Brad Arnold’s vocals had every fan in the building screaming in seconds. Successfully dropping or raising the tempo whenever needed and manipulating the movements of this mass of fans accordingly, 3 Doors Down put on one hell of a varied show with ballads like ‘Away From The Sun’, ‘Here Without You’ and the inspirational ‘Let Me Be Myself’ being balanced with some heavy material such as ‘Citizen/Soldier’ (written as a tribute to the national guard) and ‘Kryptonite’ – backed with a comic style slideshow featuring a Superman logo with a 3 inside – keeping the momentum at fever pitch throughout the gig.
The line up of Brad Arnold (vocals), Matt Roberts (guitar),Todd Harnell (bass), Chris Henderson (guitar) and Daniel Adair (drums) finished off with a three pronged encore of ‘Train’, ‘It’s Not My Time’ and ‘When I’m Gone’, making it easy to see why their latest album debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart and sold 154,000 copies in its first week, and sending the sell out crowd home happy and hoping that it won’t be too long before the boys from Mississippi return with another thrilling performance like this.
