If ever there was a large-scale prescribed musical cure for that pesky SAD, then it may involve pumping this light-hearted ode to sunshine and giggles over speakers nationwide. This is the Boston band’s second LP; they succeed in producing a huge summery sound despite only being a trio. A jaunty sound of Americana in July that doesn’t find itself too cool to clap and smile; full of jangly tambourines, light and bright guitars with some groovy piano playing that would make even Brian Wilson green. Need the proof? They make a song about VD something you could imagine yourself singing with your family on long car journeys along the beach. The only downside being that it might conjure an image of Stuart Murdoch pogoing around in a white sailor suit. Overall it’s pretty throwaway, but therein lies its charm.
