Well, the title of this one gives it away – probably not aimed at the uninitiated like myself. The first 6 songs are hook-laden mainly instrumental organ-driven pieces., and are pretty decent in an electronica-meets-ounge music sort of way. Then comes the tracks with vocals – some atmospheric and some unusual, though it has to be said not particularly inspirational, covers – from Springsteen , through Cohen to latter day Roxy Music. Having run through their career in the course of this sample I prefer the offerings from the turn of the century like ‘I Love You My Farfisa’, although the Albini-recorded ‘Long Dark’ does inject some life into the latter stages. All in all though, one for the completists.
