One More Chance (Orange Dog Records)

Don’t judge a record by its cover. The album sleeve of this (no doubt done by a very talented, lovely person) is technically well-delivered and makes you think this is going to be some sorta 70s sub-folk gloop.

WRONG! Proof that the phrase singer-songwriter does not always have to make you raise your eyes to the heavens. He rightly lists Ed Harcourt and Rufus Wainwright as influences (though I’m not sure it will necessarily appeal to Tom Waits fans, if I’m being honest), there’s an appealing quirkiness herein, that reminds me a little of the Divine Comedy.

While a lot of singer-songwriters drift over you, there’s something a little different here, in songs like ‘I Still Love You England’ and the title track to make you want to continue investigating.

Well worth hearing.One
