Wickerman festival preview

and competition! (Dundrennan, 25th / 26th July)

With a festival every week (this is no exaggeration it’s hard to name favourites (especially when they’re running competitions with itm?) but we can say without much fear of dissent from the ranks of writers that the Wickerman festival is always at the top of our ‘to do’ list. Readers of the ‘paper’ version of itm? will recall our intrepid reports from the site, and such were the rave reviews that it tempted the editor (yours truly) out of retirement from the muddy field experience in 2007. And a pretty much flawless festival was the result. (http://www.isthismusic.com/wickerman-festival / http://www.isthismusic.com/the-solus-tent-day-1)

So we’re happy to be able to run a competition for you, dear reader, to win 2 tickets to this year’s event, which should be a cracker. Taking place on the Solway coast in the south-west of Scotland on July 25th and 26th, the lineup fully deserves the term ‘eclectic’, with chart stars ancient and modern rubbing shoulders with today’s top underground and upcoming acts. KT Tunstall and The Fall on the same bill? And Gary Numan and the Red Hot Chili Pipers (not onstage together, though never say never, eh?). There’s the the Alabama 3 and former Wonderstuff mainman Miles Hunt... and Dean Friedman, Neville Staple, Sham 69, Hugh Cornwell… but despite some unashamed nostalgia, the Solus Tent has the best lineup of Scottish emerging talent you’re liable to find anywhere - Attic Lights, Broken Records, Fangs or Jesus H Foxx would be more than enough but with possibly itm?’s favourite band De Rosa and with the Kazoo Funk Orchestra invited back after last year’s incredible closing set, the term ‘dream lineup’ is fully justified.

Appetites whetted? Well, all you have to do now is answer the following question, and cross your fingers.

What was the name of the band which Gary Numan had his first hit #1 ‘Are Friends Electric’ under?

email us with your answer, quickly now, and we’ll get the passes out to the winner in good time for July 25th

//Stuart McHugh
