Twin Atlantic

Lightspeed (Red Bull)

From the Proclaimers to Glasvegas, so many bands attempt to sing in their native Scottish accent (slang words included), with few succeeding and the rest just embarrassing us Scots. However Glaswegian foursome ‘Twin Atlantic’ seem to get it bang on every time.
For those who can never quite take to the Scots dialect being sung, front man Sam McTrusty’s accent can be excused due to his rather impressive belting vocals never missing a beat. From the album ‘Vivarium’ comes the new single ‘Lightspeed’, not too pop and not too indie, it’s just right.
“It’s about unity and self belief” says Sam, “but also understanding the importance of friendship. Being in a band and getting to travel the world with my best friends made me realise this, so I wrote a song about it”. The track is typical of the band, pop rock and full of light and shade with big, powerful swells of musical excellence, complete with some clever lyrics.
Due for release March 1st alongside a video shot in the Salton Sea in the desert of California, this song is somewhat spectacular and is set to put Twin Atlantic up there with the Biffies and the Snow Patrols. “The video has a great vibe” says Sam, “it was a really natural approach by director Sean Stiegemeier, and we got to visit exploded meth labs, see a fish massacre graveyard and hang out with a guy who felt a connection with some religious overtones…so he painted a hillside to look like the brain of a child”.
Not quite as grotesque as it sounds, the video is pretty cleverly done, and makes use of the ‘light’ theme running through the song, with a few slow motion hair swishes to convey the power in the music…and because they’re worth it. The Glasgow boys will be touring Europe alongside Enter Shikari this year, and let’s hope a follow up album is in the pipeline. We haven’t heard the last of these Scottish rockers.
