Tin Soldiers

Telling Tales (On The Run)

By Gordon Neil • Apr 19th, 2010 • Category: long players

Tin Soldiers’ debut album falls squarely in the pop rock genre that seems to have spawned an infinite number of bands in the last year or so and continues to do so. Their songs are catchy with loud singalong choruses and as an album just to stick in the CD player and listen to it’s pretty good. The band have come in for high praise in rock circles and you can hear why, it’s just there’s a lack of appeal beyond owning another decent rock record.

They are a little like Lost Prophets if they’d decided to go more mainstream pop. If you put this album on in the car it would definitely have you singing along so it’s certainly an album for a certain mood. If you’re looking for something with some depth this probably isn’t for you.

Whether Tin Soldiers will break out of a crowded marketplace remains to be seen. Judging on this first effort, they’re not separating themselves enough from the rest of the bands to succeed in that goal but if they get more adventurous with future releases, then maybe.
