Don’t be put off by the name that makes you think of a death metal band, the third full length album from singer-songwriter Johnny Lamb, aka Thirty Pounds of Bone, is chock full of simple yet endearing folk songs.
Continuing with the theme of place, the album is split into four locations; past place, the in between, the place of heritage and the present place. Lamb keeps the feel of traditional music throughout the songs but still manages to keep it fresh and modern at the same time.
The stand out track for me is the final song on the album ‘The Wolf on the Shelf’. A love song about home which makes you feel quite homesick.
