The Tunics

Cost Of Living (Manta Ray Music)

By Gordon Matheson • Apr 25th, 2008 • Category: short players

The Tunics hail from Croydon, and this becomes blindingly obvious as soon as you hear the vocals - the refreshing sound of a singer singing in a distinctive accent that isn’t a strange transatlantic drawl. The honesty of this approach pays dividends as ‘Cost of Living’ is an immediately accessible song, although you’d be forgiven for thinking their biggest influence was The Streets. Not the case. A catchy pop-rock tune soon follows the almost spoken-word intro, and in ‘Turn Away’ there’s hints of anthemic balladeering but they’re forgiven on the back of their confidence and conviction. These tracks are taken from the album ‘Somewhere in Somebody’s Heart’ and on the back of this showing, it’ll be well worth checking out.
