The Seal Cub Clubbing Club

May (Boon(e) Recordings)

By Gordon Matheson • Apr 26th, 2008 • Category: short players

Immediately, The S.C.C.C win the award for arguably the greatest band name of all time, and this alone is enough to spark your interest. Happily, the music itself is far from being a letdown, ‘May’ is varied and textured like a patchwork quilt of sounds, veering from electronic Kid A-esque ambience to stuttered rhythms and culminating in plenty of soaring, crunching guitars, all in she space of about three minutes. B-side ‘Tin Drum’ is a lot simpler, woven guitar parts and a lyric sung in a very affecting broken voice, and on the back of this showing, The S.C.C.C have plenty going for them.
