The Dawn Chorus
Carnivalesque (Jellymaid)

Featuring the talents of one Frank Turner, it appears that The Dawn Chorus have really upped their game on their forthcoming album The Carnival Leaves Town. Featuring some of the best use of brass I have ever heard away from the likes of Calexico, this track is one of the best I have heard so far this year. Drawing influences from across all Europe, ‘Carnivalesque’ does exactly what it says on the tin, evoking spirited folk music from across Europe. Yet the lyrics hint at darker themes - “If you could see my sordid adulterous dreams/you’d realise my conscience is not so clean/they’re a million light years apart -what I say and what I mean.” Excellent stuff. I hope you’re paying attention.
