The Coronas

San Diego Song (3u)

By Donny • May 13th, 2009 • Category: reviews

Dublin lads the Coronas are currently cruising on the back of their domestic success, and ‘San Diego Song’ is the latest release from album ‘Heroes & Ghosts’ which went platinum in the emerald isle.

However, their success belies what is in essence a flimsy, contrived record, that lacks imagination. Over-exuberant guitar solos suck a hole through the centre of the song, padding either side of a chorus that portrays itself as a retort against conformity, but falls on the lowest rung of the verbal ladder.

“We sleep all day, We drink all night,
We are not wasting our time, we refuse to hide,
We are going out tonight.”

Go already – this is a cliché-ridden, soft-metal ‘singalong’ that tries desparately to be relevant, but would have been better off in the ‘maybe’ pile when it came to producing the record.

The Coronas can be found at Oxegen this summer, which mercifully should see them avoid migrating across the water to ruin your T in the Park weekend.
