You’ve got to love the ‘Meanies - and not only because their combined weight would be enough to crush any squeals of dissent among the more po-faced local music community. Doggedly stocking to their ‘party’ line they continue to bash out ska-punk tunes with bouncy beats and spy movie guitar hooks. ‘Good One Go’, is just that, a moonstomp which recalls their patrons Belle and Sebastian and Franz Ferdinand as much as the Specials. ‘Nothing’s OK’ is actually more old-school ska - almost a ballad, it harks back to the days of the Bodynatchers and other female-fronted Two-tone acts before jumping on its scooter and taking us on a breakneck ride through what’s a top quality tune, no matter what genre you file it under.
