Oh, god. South have been responsible for some great songs in the past - for example, ‘Loosen your Hold’ and ‘Here On In’ but several listens later, I’m forced to conclude that there are none on this record. It’s not that it’s a stinker, but it’s just so dull. The market suffers a glut of over emotional pseudo-indie bands at the best of times, and this album is no exception.
I have listened several times to this album, and i was really please to get it to review, but that initial excitement has turned to real disappointment. When they were first around at the turn of the decade, South seemed to have something. Whatever it was, it’s not here. Even those folks who accuse Coldplay and latter-day Snow Patrol of plodding MOR rock would have to reassess them after hearing this.
Back to the drawing board, guys.
