SHe’S HiT

Standing Stone demos (Re:Peater)

How considerate! These four lads from Glasgow with a propensity towards loud (and I mean LOUD) music give forewarning in the first of these four tracks of what to expect after attending one of their shows. A looped sound akin to that of the school dinner bell welcomes the listener to opening track, ‘Re:Peater; a song that bears considerable Jesus and Mary Chain influences, but builds to a more aggressive sound, and incorporates a slightly distorted vocal delivery. It’s all quite frantic, but in a controlled way and could probably be best described as something your parents would have considered ‘just a noise.’ I love it!

‘She Slips She Slides,’ has a bit of a dark surf thing going on. The vocals are more pronounced and the twin guitars are each separated and distinct whereas in the opening track they work in tandem, almost on top of each other.

‘Black Transistor Nightmares’ continues with the combined feel of The Cramps and maybe early Suicide, while the fourth and final track shows a more subtle side to the band. Well.. ‘subtle’ is maybe taking it a bit far, but it shows that SHe’S HiT are not simply all about distortion and volume. The pace is slower although the guitar twang is still evident and ‘Part One’ has the feel of a dark Gothic movie superimposed onto a Spaghetti Western!

These demo recordings were initially prepared purely so that the band could give something tangible to their supporters at shows. They were not intended to be ‘out there’ for review and comment. However, if this is the standard of fare we can expect in future from SHe’S HiT, then any subsequent album that may follow in due course will be worth the wait.
