Remember Remember
Remember Remember (Rock Action)
Remember Remember’s main man, Graeme Ronald, has a rather impressive musical history.
In his time he’s been a player for bands including Flying Matchstick Men, Multiplies, The Royal We and others. So judging on what’s gone before, plus almost two years worth of performance under his current name in and around Glasgow, expectation was pretty high for this debut. Happily, it’s fulfilled. Remember Remember floats along like a beautiful dream – melodies building upon each other and drifting through the album. From the gentle opening of ‘And the Demon Said’ to the build up of ‘Up in a Blue Light’ it carries through on a sea of bleeps, piano, tinkly glockenspiel, alien-sounding electronics and comfortingly human voices.
It’s quite amazing to think that, aside from some welcome and perhaps freshening additions from some musician friends, this is in the main the work of Graeme Ronald alone.
The power of electronics and the loop pedal – put to excellent use in his live shows – are in full effect as layer upon layer of sound works together throughout the songs.
He has used everything, right down to handclaps, to create this wonderful noise, and pulled it all together into an album which flows together beautifully.
Label bosses at Rock Action use the word “epic” in their description, and they’re not wrong. This is an exciting, impressive and inventive debut – ensuring Remember Remember will not be easily forgotten.
