Prefuse 73

By Alex Botten • Oct 21st, 2007 • Category: short players

The first single from new album ‘Preparations’ is a joyful collaboration with New York psych outfit Wall of Seven Bells, invoking a bucolic electronic gauze that, despite the modern production, is timeless. Woozy and charming in equal measure, the lead track is a treat from start to end. As for the other tracks on this 4 song EP, Battles drummer John Stanier gets diced into a breakbeat splatter on ‘Red Smoking’ , ‘En Blanco’ is a pummeling rumble of tom tom and low end fart (and is tremendously satisfying as a result), and ‘The Classical Sounds of 73 Bells’ is a string laden reworking of the lead track (or maybe it’s the source material for it?). This is the kind of single that will (hopefully) lure listeners into buying its parent album.
