The first word that comes to mind with this album is ‘spiky’. Every point is rammed home shortly and sharply.
There is the sustained ferocity of the very best power pop. Think of The Cure in their ‘Close To Me’ / ‘Lovecats’ prime. Each one has been long honed and soldered on the anvil of the live stage. If it didn’t get the audience going then it didn’t get on plastic.
There’s a real street feel to the sounds on display here. These are power chords which you would be foolish to mess with. Think Bruce Springsteen (‘Born To Run’) crossed with ‘Coney Island Baby’-era Lou Reed and you’d be pretty damned close.
This is real music. These are real people. These are real emotions. This is your life, today, here and now. Imagery comes pouring out thick and fast and makes you want to listen all over again. Would that I could say the same of more bands!
