Mother Mother
O My Heart (Last Gang Records)

Vancouver natives Mother Mother are signed to the same label that has released tunes by such talented fellow Canadians as Metric, The New Pornographers and Crystal Castles. Disappointingly, however, ‘Oh My Heart’ is a rather non-descript pop-rock number. There’s really not much to say about this song, it’s got a driving, slightly menacing feel, and is certainly melodic, but in a somewhat throwaway, flimsy kind of way. There are some nice harmonizing boy-girl vocals but nothing much else that stands out. You’ve also got to question the sanity of a supposedly serious band sticking an endorsement from showbiz blogging monstrosity Perez Hilton on their press release.
