Beep Beep, I Love You (Full Time Hobby)

What’s this? Has Oor Malky finally departed from his morose ways and started to produce cutesy titled, twee Children’s songs? No, of course not! ‘Beep Beep, I Love You’ is the radio friendly title for the rather more potty mouthed ‘F*** it, I Love You’; his latest offering from his third solo album ‘A Brighter Beat’. Although, saying that, the track is easily the most upbeat of the LP; its jangly verses are packed with jaunty guitars, bright sprinkles of glockenspiel and a pretty beat to leave you skipping up the road whilst singing along to the sugary vocals of Strike the Colours’ Jenny Reeve in the chorus. But fans of Mr Middleton will be delighted to hear that not too much has changed and the lyrics still contain the good old pessimistic themes of loneliness, self-denial and fear of rejection lying somewhere below the rose-tinted surface. Yay!
