So For Your Thrills (Pet Piranha)
‘So for Your Thrills’ is just like your typical musician; seduces you at the beginning of a brief courtship with some warm and tender sentiments (like the heart-achingly beautiful ‘Dawn Says’), messes you about for a wee bit, then flippantly tosses you away in the end; the album’s final words being ‘today’s the day we go our separate ways’…bastard. But there’s a difference because, unlike your average musician, the journey’s genuinely interesting. Its extravagant country-pop with an American lilt, going from lazy country drawls with irresistible sing-a-long harmonies, traversing over the country with dramatic intent to circus tents and coastlines where there are overblown, majestic anthems and handclaps, respectively. It’s definitely a journey worth repeating once in a while.
