Kick to Kill

Cut Me (Flowers in the Dustbin)

By Elaine Liddle • Oct 21st, 2009 • Category: short players

Legend has it that this track was written after singer Dave Cook was attacked in Glasgow city centre. Stabbed in both the head, and chest, he was taken to hospital but discharged himself the next morning after telling doctors: “It doesn’t hurt”. That in itself makes me want to love ‘Cut Me’, but luckily the song has enough in it to back up the story.

Outwith the opening cruncher of a riff, their driving guitars are certainly somewhat indebted to The Cure or Joy Division – not to mention the dark lyrics “nothing can get in – no light, no sound… cut me, come on and watch me bleed”. Intensity is definitely the word.
